The Town of Westwood is completing an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Self-Evaluation & Transition Plan through a planning grant received by the Massachusetts Office on Disability (MOD).   

Title II of the ADA outlines program accessibility standards for State and Local Governments. The ADA Self-Evaluation looks at municipal buildings, fields and playgrounds, as well as the Town website, and Town policies and practices, to determine compliance with Title II and any barriers to accessibility. The Transition Plan then prioritizes all barriers to accessibility identified in the evaluation, allowing the Town to plan for how they will be corrected.

The planning grant awarded by MOD allowed Westwood to hire an outside agency, the Institute for Human Centered Design (IHCD) to conduct the Self-Evaluation and create a Transition Plan.  IHCD utilized site visits, as well as communication with the Town’s Commission on Disability and municipal officials, to complete the evaluation and draft summaries, site reports and the transition plan between 2023-2024.

These draft Self-Evaluation and Transition plan documents are shared through the links below.  The public comment period has ended. The IHCD will give a final presentation to the Select Board at its meeting on February 3, 2025.  All interested residents may attend the Select Board's meeting on February 3, 2025.

Following the public presentation, the Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan will act as a living document that informs planning to address accessibility concerns in the Town.  This will also allow the Town to become eligible for project grant funding through MOD for upwards of $250,000 to implement accessibility improvements.
