March is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

In recognition of National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, the Westwood Commission on Disability reaffirms its commitment to promoting inclusion, accessibility, and opportunity for all

Our work focuses on issues important to residents with disabilities and their families, including:

• Accessible housing

• Transportation

• Physical accessibility in public spaces

• Emergency preparedness and planning

 The Commission on Disability welcomes new members who would like to contribute their time, perspective, and energy to this important work. Individuals with disabilities are especially encouraged to participate, Together we can help ensure that Westwood remains a community where everyone belongs

Mission Statement

The mission of the Commission on Disability is to provide information, referral, guidance, and technical assistance to residents and Town departments on matters of disability.

More Information about the Commission on Disability
The Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, MA General Law Chapter 151B, and the Architectural Access Board Regulations all prohibit any place open to the general public from discriminating against individuals with disabilities.

The Commission on Disability works collaboratively with other Town offices to advise and assist the Town in complying with state and federal requirements and promotes universal access to community life and activities.

The Commission on Disability works on issues of great importance to Town residents with disabilities and their families. These include housing, transportation, physical access, and emergency planning.

The Commission on Disability seeks people with disabilities to bring their insights, skills, and energy to this important work. People without disabilities are also welcome, especially if they have experience with people with disabilities and/or with inclusive design implementation.
