EVERYTHING to be collected (trash, recycle, yard waste & bulk) must be at curbside by 7am on your scheduled day. ANY missed pick-ups (that were at curbside by 7am) need to be reported to dpw@westwoodma.gov or 781-251-2587 within 24 hours of your scheduled day. Note-separate trucks are used for Trash, Recycling, Yard Waste and Bulk collections and run until 6pm.

"YARD WASTE" means any vegetative matter resulting from yard maintenance and landscaping operations. Yard Waste includes plant debris such as grass clippings, leaves, pruning's, weeds, branches, brush, tree trimmings and other forms of vegetative waste placed in paper leaf recycling bags or loose in barrels (not town trash or recycle barrels) not exceeding 45 pounds. Yard Waste does not include dirt, soil, sand, stone, masonry, concrete, asphalt, food waste or tree branches greater than three (3) inches in diameter. Yard Waste is not permitted to be collected as Solid Waste or as Recyclables.
Yard Waste Collection Requirements:
Must be placed in paper leaf recycling bags or loosely in barrels that are clearly marked "leaves or Yard Waste". Do not put yard waste in your Westwood Recycling or Trash barrel for disposal. Each barrel and/or bag shall not exceed 45 pounds. Anything in excess of 45 pounds will not be collected:
*No plastic bags can be collected with yard waste, as they will cause the entire truck load to be rejected at the composting site.
*Place barrels and bags curbside by 7:00 AM on your trash pickup day and Waste Management has until 6:00 PM to pickup
*DO's: grass clippings, leaves, pruning's, weeds, branches, brush, tree trimmings
*DONT's: dirt, soil, sand, stone, gravel, wood, plastic, masonry, concrete, asphalt, food waste, tree branches greater than three (3) inches in diameter, bags exceeding 45 pounds
- Missed Pickup: If your leaf bags were out by 7:00 AM on your regular trash day and were not picked up by 6:00 PM please contact the DPW office via email or (781) 251-2587 within 24 hours and we will schedule a pickup with Waste Management. We cannot schedule yard waste pickups after the scheduled collection week has ended. Thanks for your help!
The Town does not pick up brush, branches, and limbs unless they fall from a public tree. Please call the Westwood Fire Department at (781) 326-3885 for more information on private burn permits.
South Ridge Farm and Nursery: 400 South Street, Walpole, MA 02081 (508) 668-0401. Accepts drop off of organic yard waste, grass, brush, stumps, logs, leaves, hay, sod, fill and stone for a small fee. We recommend calling ahead for more information and pricing.
Compost Bins:
Click on Earth Machine Compost Bin for pictures and description. Please be aware of the size/dimensions before ordering: Unit dimensions when assembled: 33" diameter by 33" high, Weight: 15 lbs, Volume: 10.5 cubic feet (80 Imperial gallons or 300 liters).
The cost for a compost bin is a one-time fee of $55

-Throw in food scraps
-Throw in dried leaves, yard waste, wood chips, torn-up newspaper, sticks -- ideally more of this than the veggie scraps
-Repeat as needed
-Occasionally douse with water, or leave the lid off during a rainstorm
-Occasionally use a rake, shovel or pitchfork to stir up the pile
