The Housing Division answers housing questions, assists those facing a housing crisis, and oversees the Town's inventory of affordable housing - also known as our subsidized housing inventory (SHI).

The Town of Westwood is committed to ensuring that housing opportunities are available to all residents, regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, physical or mental disability, familial status, or any other classification protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.

Further, the Town is committed to increasing the diversity of housing opportunities within the Town to support housing choice for all regardless of socioeconomic status.

Housing Partnership & Fair Housing Committee

The Housing Partnership ensures that housing opportunities are available in Westwood to all income and age levels in accordance with programs regulated by the state. The Housing Partnership collaborates with the Planning and Zoning Boards on Zoning Bylaws that encourage production of low and moderate income housing.

The Fair Housing Committee protects against discrimination in the sale of real estate within the Town of Westwood, in addition to serving as a hearing and monitoring entity to prevent discrimination in the selection of applicants for its affordable homes.

Local Initiative Program: Affordable Housing

Westwood began developing affordable rental housing in the 1970s. In the 1990s, Westwood began developing affordable ownership opportunities under the Local Initiative Program (LIP). The Town's inclusionary zoning requirements ensure that the Town continues to expand housing choice for current and future residents.

Westwood Housing Authority

The Town supports and works cooperatively with the independent Westwood Housing Authority (WHA) and its non-profit affiliate, Westwood Affordable Housing Associates, Inc. (WAHA). WAHA manages fourteen of the hundreds of private affordable rental units in Westwood.
