Affordable Housing Services in Westwood

The Westwood Housing Authority and its non-profit arm, Westwood Affordable Housing Associates, Inc.  are responsible for the development and management of affordable housing in Westwood.  Furthermore the Housing Partnership and Fair Housing Committee ensure that housing opportunities are available in Westwood to all income and age levels and also protects against discrimination in the sale of real estate in the town of Westwood.

Westwood Housing Authority
The Westwood Housing Authority was established in 1988 by a Town Meeting vote. The Department of Housing and Community Development  has mandated that the Town of Westwood provide at least twelve affordable rental units under Executive Order 215.

The Westwood Housing Authority has four elected members and one state appointee.  The members are listed below:

PLEASE NOTE: The Westwood Housing Authority does not have State or Federal subsidized housing and cannot process applications for Section 8 Vouchers. Please contact Dedham Housing Authority for an application.

Westwood Affordable Housing Associates, Inc.
The non-profit arm of the housing authority, Westwood Affordable Housing Associates, Inc. (WAHA) was formed in 1994 to pursue creative options for funding the development or purchase of affordable family rental units in Westwood.  WAHA owns three two-bedroom duplexes, one three-bedroom duplex, and three single family houses for a total of eleven rental units. All tenants must be certified as low income and are recertified annually according to State and Federal guidelines. All units are currently rented and occupied at this time.

Senior Housing

The Town does not own any senior housing units.  Equity Residential owns two properties for age 55 or over (or disabled). Interested parties must contact them directly for all questions and requests for applications.

Local Initiative Program

Westwood has two single family housing developments that were developed under the Local Initiative Program from 1996-2000. All fifty-five affordable units are currently owned and occupied. The Town held a new lottery in December 2010 to establish an updated waiting list. This list will be used for the next five years if an affordable house becomes available for resale.

 Housing Partnership

The Housing Partnership ensures that housing opportunities are available in Westwood to all income and age levels in accordance with programs regulated by the Massachusetts Housing Partnership.

Fair Housing Committee
The Fair Housing Committee protects against discrimination in the sale of real estate within the Town of Westwood.
