What can NOT be be put in my Recycling Barrel- common contaminants?

Waste Management will not pick up your recycling barrel if contaminants are found in the barrel. We are seeing a large amount of plastic bags and other contaminants in recycling barrels. Thank you for your help!

You would like to request an additional trash or recycling barrel? Please call the Department of Public Works at 781-251-2587 to request an extra barrel. All that we ask is that you commit to a long term use of the barrel, as we cannot grant barrels for one time use or clean outs. We appreciate your help. Fees are as below.

  • Extra Recycling Barrel- $60 one time fee will be assessed prior to the delivery of the barrel
  • Extra Trash Barrel- $150 annual rental fee

Have extra trash that will not fit in your trash barrel? Town of Westwood overflow bags are available at Roche Brothers, Walgreen's (Route 109). or at the DPW Office (50 Carby Street), The DPW office is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Bags are 5 for $10. Just fill the overflow bags and place at curbside next to your trash barrel on your regular trash collection day.

MovingIf you are moving, you must leave your trash and recycling barrels for the new homeowner. If the barrels are missing, a replacement cost for new barrels will be charged either to the current owner or the new homeowner.

Damaged or Lost Barrels? The barrels provided are the property of the Town of Westwood and will be repaired or replaced if the damage is from the trash contractor. If the barrel is damaged as a result of neglect, or if the cart is missing or stolen, the resident will be responsible for the replacement cost. Please call the DPW office at 781-251-2587 for additional information.

Trash Pickup- Waste Management picks up trash every week.

Recycling Pickup- Recycling is picked up every other week, on a designated blue or green week. Each recycling barrel has either a blue top (blue week) or a green top (green week). Please call 781-251-2587 if you are unsure of your recycling week.
